Welcome to The AstroMonkey Cycle Rod & Custom club website. I just started throwing this site together. I hope to have more stuff online soon. So keep checking back.

AstroMonkey BBQ X - July 10th 2010 - link

With this being our 10th year we wanted it to be a big deal. The last couple years have been great, but it just wasn’t the same, so we wanted to get back to what we think the BBQ should be. To do this we've deiced to go back to our roots and take a step backwards from what we've done the last two years. There's a ton of cool car shows around now and they all have basically the same format. We don't need to try and emulate them. At the heart of it, AstroMonkey has always been just a big out doors party. It's about local bands and local people. It's about getting together to have fun and doing it on the cheap without help from corporate sponsors and the like. With the help of a good friend, who's going to be taking over some of the responsibility for me this year, we've managed to rent the same park where we had BBQ 5 & 6. For those of you who weren't there, Saint Michael's park in Mont Claire PA has a huge pavilion, tons of parking, and acres of grass. Standing around in a bar or in a gravel parking lot never felt like a BBQ to me. The plan this year is to run it much like we did back in 2005 - 2007. We're going to ask for a small donation at the door in hopes of breaking even on the costs. Beyond that it will be free beer and free food all day or at least until it's all gone. It's still really early on in the planning stages so I don't have a lot of details for you at the moment, but we do have a lot planned for this year. So stay tuned for more details.

New File Manager - link
As many of you know, after the last server upgrade I disabled FTP access and the web based file manager stopped working. I've finally got around to setting up a new file manager. Give it a try and let me know if you have any trouble.

Server Move (outage) - link
I had to move AstroMonkey's server image to a new storage server last night. Sorry everything was down for the evening.

AstroMonkey BBQ IX - June 27th 2009 - link

AstroMonkey IX is on and is again being graciously hosted by the Railroad St. Bar & Grill in Limerick, PA on the last Saturday in June (6/27/2009). As always we'll be having plenty of cool bands and our no frills, no rules, no prizes car show. It's all about real people's real rides not how much money you spent on it. All Rods, Custom, Jalopies, and Cycles are welcome. Get all the details at: http://www.myspace.com/astromonkeybbq

A Not So Gracious Grace Period! - link

http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=306

As many of you have known for months now, Mythic has offered it's pre-pay customers the chance to get a head start on the competition.  It seamed like a very nice gesture and a good way to pump up sales. Obviously it worked on the sales side with over 1.5 million units being pushed before release.  Unfortunately though if you decided not to pay for the exorbitant express shipping option on your online orders you may be locked out now that the game has been released.  That is unless of course you're lucky enough to have ordered from one of EA's favorite stores. Including Amazon, GoGamer and the EA Store. If you bought from another retailer they obviously could care less. Why did we go out of our way to buy the game months a head of time? Many people would have been better off to wait and purchase it retail at a local brick and mortar store.

The thing the boggles the mind though, is that to get a head start code you had to purchase the game. It's obvious that these people payed for the game up front. Why then the need to lock them out 24 hours after the game launches? Unless you payed for over night delivery you can expect to miss the entire launch weekend. That is unless you actually bought your game from EA's store. Then you get an extra few days.

Sorry about the down time - link
I add some RAM to the server today so things where down for a little while. Hopefully in the very near future I'm going to upgrade the hardware on AstroMonkey. Things have been getting a little sluggish lately.  For now hopefully some extra RAM will help.

Dropkick Murphys & Flogging Mol - link
Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly will be playing together in Philly at the Festival Pier on Thursday, Sept. 13th at 8:00pm.  This is a dream-team of punk rock line-up here and I expect many monkeys should want to attend.

Cost is $30.00 per Ticketmaster website.  It's general admission so we don't have to buy the tickets in bulk to stick together.

So who's up for going?

AstroMonkey CRC 460 Engine Pull - link
This Saturday from 10:00 - 3:00ish (before draft) Greg and I are planning to pull the 460 out of the Lincoln in preparation for it's later install in the Ford truck.  We could use some extra hands if anyone has time to help out. Even if you can't make it there by 10 the extra muscle could come in handy. It'll take us awhile just to get ready for the actual pulling. Post up if you think you can make it.

Shop Day This Sunday at Noon - link
If anyone is interested we're going to have a shop day this Sunday from noon - 4:00. On the agenda are, welding patches in the Galaxie's floor and working on the MurphBot. Anyone who wants to get their hands dirty is welcome to come out. Just plan to help if you come out.

Server Updated - link
The Server update should be finished and everything should be working again. If you notice any problems please let me know by posting to this thread.

New Gallery Feature Added - link
Due to popular demand I got off my ass and added a photo gallery feature to AstroMonkey. By default you do not have a personal gallery. To activate your personal gallery you need to click the link labeled "Activate Your Gallery"  in the Members Options box on the left side of the front page.  Once you activate your gallery you can start posting up your photos. You should be able to create sub-albums under your personal album to keep your pictures organized. I haven't had much time to play with the new software but so far it looks pretty good. I'm still working out all the kinks but everything should be functional. If you have any problems post in the support forum.

I'd really like to gauge peoples intrest in coming not just there preference for day. VOTE!

New Years Eve at the Rabbithole - link

It's that time of year again folks and it's gonna be a biggun if we do it right and I'd like to see a big turnout of monkeys. I will be supplying a keg, various alchoholic treats and some snackies.

While I have no problem throwing a party I do request a donation of a couple bucks to cover my expenses.

Events!

* Football! for anyone interested in playing there is a football field convenient to Bridgport where we can play some ball in the AM I'm thinking around 10AM to give us time to nap before the party. Please let me know if you want to play I'm makin a list.

* HALO 2 Tourney! As most of you know I now have a gigantic TV which (with split screen) should easily accomodate an 8 person Halo 2 Tournament. There is however a small problem. My X-Box has been given to the Marines (or should I say a particular marine) so we need 2 X-Boxes up to 8 controllers (depending on who's playing) and 2 copies of Halo 2. Oh and somebody who can network the 2 boxes. Please respond if you can assist with this
- Spider I need you to bring back the crown and the trophy for the tourney
- The Tourney will probably begin at 7pm

* Karaoke! It's a possibility if I can find some good software quickly, we'll just keep it in the realm of possible unless someone knows where I can get a cheap karaoke machine with a ton of songs.

* Beer Pong Tourney! I would like to actually have a contest for this with a ladder and a little trophy, if anyone has any setup suggestions I would appreciate it.

Lastly a couple of details: As many of you know I have a giant dirty cuntsack for a neighbor who will most assuredly call the cops if anyone parks along the curb so I have to ask people to park on the street. I know it's a hike but I want to keep the cops away unless we do something worth getting busted about.

Anyone is welcome to crash if they don't feel they can drive.

OK I think that's it party will start around 8:30-9pm. Please start RSVPing on this thread I want to make this one rock.

A comic/zine that lasted four years with international distribution through Tower Records. The Julian Barrett has been recording and writing his low-fi style folk/country songs about murder since 1996. The two Southern New Jersey boys joined forces in the summer of 2003 after attending a Murder Junkie’s show and have been writing, recording and touring since.

Unfortunately it looks like the new insulating foam on the shuttles external fuel tank is still a bit flaky. Current reports are that all Shuttle flights are grounded until they can sort out remaining problems withe the insulation coming off during launch.

"Any damage will not escape our detection," Hale said at a Wednesday news conference. NASA said that during launch, a piece of tile also fell from Discovery's underside near the forward landing gear -- an area that has a redundant thermal barrier.

AstroMonkey BBQ V - Kicked Much Ass! - link
I think we can safely say this year's BBQ was a big success. Saint Mike's Park rocked and I'd like to thank them for use of their spectacular facilities. I'd also like to thank everyone that helped out this year. Without the continued help and support of the AstroMonkey community I couldn't pull off an event like this. I'd also like to send out a huge thanks to all the bands that played this year. The BBQ is a break even affair at best and the bands come out and play for free every year. So if you see a show listing for any of the bands from the BBQ try to go out and support them. I'd also like to specifically thank Mobedda. This is something like their 4th time playing, plus they graciously picked up and dropped off the PA system. As always there where a few snags but nothing we couldn't handle. So thanks again and here's looking forward to next year being even better.

Roar to the Shore 2005 is on! - link
+++Comm established+++
Attention all monkeys and AMS personnel, Cpn Leonharte of the Steinhoffen Flight Group with final debriefing on our assault of the Wildwood system.

We are go for the week before Memorial Day, which is May 20-23.  We will be departing from a jump station of our choice, either the Heichel place, Brad's, Ian's, or maybe just start at one and rendevous with other wings of the fleet.  The plan is to leave Friday night, and stay through Monday the 23rd - anyone who needs to leave on Sunday should have some way of getting home.

We encourage the use of motorcycles (aka Outriders) in keeping with the 'Roar to the Shore' thing, but other vehicles are more than welcome.  Due to the date we're going, parking should not be a problem.

We request alcohol reinforcements.  The more cases of beer and suitably volatile liquor we can procure the greater our fighting effectiveness.  While very expensive contributions are not required equipment for this mission we request your assistance.

There is one final consideration to be made.  Due to our final target being a smallish house whose kitchen is still under construction in the Wildwood system, this invitation is open to Astromonkeys only.  We request no friends of friends who would like a free weekend at the beach.  If you have a non-monkey girlfriend/boyfriend/significant other who would like to go please let me know beforehand.
Also, there are limited sleeping accomodations, so you might wanna pack a blanket and pillow.

Any further questions or tactical recommendations, sound off here.  Final Roll call should also be taken before we leave, so let us know if you're in and whether you pilot an Outrider, Corvette or Frigate class ship.

Captain Leonharte of the SFG, final debrief concluded.

Viva La Tazza! - link
As some of you may already know, La Tazza has been sold and will be closing indefinitely. Considering what this venue and it's staff has contributed to the Philly rock n' roll scene over the past 5 or so years, it's a big loss the city and will be missed. Saturday, April 9, 2005 will be the last Viva La Tazza and La Tazza's last day of business, so come on out and have a blast. What better a way to spend an evening than helping to say goodbye to a good rockin' venue.

3 bands:
*The Buzzards- NYC
*Ace Brown and the Helldivers- Pittsburgh
*Full Blown Cherry

C64DTV makes a splash at Tom's Hardware Guide - link
The C64DTV is based upon the world famous Commodore 64 home PC, the most famous and well known home computer for videogames. With a simple and straightforward to use connection to the TV, users of the C64 Direct-to-TV can play 30 popular C64 games. With 30 games pre-installed on the device, the C64 Direct-to-TV product offers significantly more than its competitors.

The most fascinating thing is the ease with which these can be modified to operate as a fully functional C64 with a little soldering a few minutes and a couple of easily located cheap or spare parts.

Another State Of Mind - link
Just watched the movie Another State of Mind. I haven't seen this film in probably 10 years. It's pretty crazy seeing guys like Mike Ness and Ian MacKaye as snot nosed kids back in 1982. I'm a big Social Distortion fan, so I figured I'd check into getting tickets for there NJ show coming up on the 26th. Well after finding out that a ticket is $25.50 and Ticketmaster has to add there $6 on top of that I decided fuck that. Who the fuck am I going to see here, Social Distortion or NSYNC. I guess I can't completely blame them. How in the hell could you manage to have Social D. at a local bar for $5 a head, but this is ridiculous. What snot nosed punk kid could afford $30 to see a band. Wasn't a hatred of arena rock one of the core catalyst for punk to begin with. I'm not a snot nosed punk kid any more and neither is Mike Ness. I could afford to pay $30+ to see a band, but I won't. I'll spend $5 to see the RedTops, or The Young Werewolves, or Sasquatch & The Sickabillys, or Stereo Atomico or countless other bands that still have some clue what it's about. And don't give me any shit about naming a bunch of bands that aren't punk in a rant about punk. This isn't about punk that's just the word I'm using for an attitude I think/hope a lot of my friends still have. Weather you listen to anything from Hardcore to Rockabilly to Salsa. And I'm not trying to take a shot at Social D. I'm still a huge fan and always will be. I just want to make a point to the people around me who might actually "get it". Part of me wonders if it's something that has to be left to the kids and that the kids today just don't get it. They grew up on Nirvana, Green Day, and Blink 182. They all expect punk to be down at the local Colosseum or something.

New Spam and Antivirus filters on AstroMonkey - link
Okay I know you've all seen lots of wierd hicups and a few mentions to this new server crap. Well the biggest reason for the new setup has been to implement Spam and better Virus filtering. The old Antivirus filter was outdated and unsupported, but the new system should be much safer and a good bit faster.  I've also setup Spamassassin with bayes filtering to cut down on spam. For the spam filter to work best it must be trained. In the near future I'll be setting a system where you can help train the filters by dropping unwanted spam in a special folder. I'll give you all better details once I have most of the kinks worked out.

I've was a die hard Netscape fan back in the day and have since become a die hard Mozilla fan. Now with the release of Firefox (based on Mozilla) I'm excited about renewed compition in the browser space. U.S. Wants No Warming Proposal
Administration Aims to Prevent Arctic Council Suggestions
By Juliet Eilperin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, November 4, 2004; Page A13

The Bush administration has been working for months to keep an upcoming eight-nation report from endorsing broad policies aimed at curbing global warming, according to domestic and foreign participants, despite the group's conclusion that Arctic latitudes are facing historic increases in temperature, glacial melting and abrupt weather changes.

State Department representatives have argued that the group, which has spent four years examining Arctic climate fluctuations, lacks the evidence to prepare detailed policy proposals. But several participants in the negotiations, all of whom requested anonymity for fear of derailing the Nov. 24 report, said officials from the eight nations and six indigenous tribes involved in the effort had ample science on which to draft policy.

The recommendations are based on a study, which was leaked last week, that concludes the Arctic is warming much faster than other areas of the world and that much of this change is linked to human-generated greenhouse gas emissions. The Arctic Climate Impact Assessment -- produced by a council of nations with Arctic territory that includes the United States, Canada, Russia and several Nordic countries -- reflects the work of more than 300 scientists.

How Long Are Your Fingers? - link
Scientists may have found a correlation between the length of your index finger and hormone levels. They've also identified a correlation between hormone levels and brain development. Men with less testosterone, where the level of testosterone and estrogen are closer to equal, are usually better at hard sciences like mathematics and physics.  So in essence the length of your index finger in relation to your ring finger can help discern how good you are at science and math.

New Front Page Posting System - link
With the server change over the old database for frontpage posts wasn't working very well. So, to kill two birds with one stone I switched to a new setup where the front page pulls it's information from a special forum called Frontpage News. Any topic started in this forum is posted to the frontpage automatically and the More... link will take you directly from the front page to the thread so you can flame whoever posted it. You'll also notice that all  the same formatting is available as well. So now you can post  Cool and  Huh to the front page. Hopefully this will encourage people to post more news and events to the frontpage. Movie and book reviews, political commentary, current events, anything you might think about starting as a thread and you think might make for a good frontpage post. Have fun and let me know what you think or if you have any problems.
